Keys of meditation
Miami started as a practice riff on electric piano. With my right hand I was playing this simple little four note line, repeating and alternately flipping direction as my left hand changed bass notes.
It sounded cool, so I hit the Record button. I’m no Liberace. This sort of movement requires my full attention. It did not take long for the music to pull me into my own meditative world.
Funky fashion
The hypnotic simplicity of the chord change led to a bass line with similar qualities. I dig it a lot. The bass track also provided the title. My buddy Kilo bought me this fabulous tie-dyed Miami Vice shirt.
If at first you don’t succeed
I recorded the guitar track in two takes. Here I am picking up the tune halfway through for the second part of the guitar solo.
Your moment of Zen
Midway through the recording session, Murphy and I took a park break.
Housekeeping : check the feed
There’s been a lot of music coming out of the studio lately. Something about the change of seasons gets my sparks flying. Unfortunately not every tune gets a blog post. If you like what you hear, please check out the Youtube channel for more.
New music alert
A bit more housekeeping. I released a new single on September 18th. Pivot Dub features cool dub vibes, a smooth deep house groove, blues guitar, a bunch of live percussion, and just a touch of Buckaroo Banzai. The tune is a remix of the Pivot, which was born on this blog.
Instruments and gear used in the production:
Hohner B Bass V 5-String Electric Bass
